Newspaper Convention -- Broadsheets

Newspaper convention - Middle market hybrid

This middle market hybrid has more formal than the popular press and is more opinionated than the quality press because it is split into two and on the top it talks about Theresa may and touches on some politics however on the bottom half it talks about something completely separate to politics.

There is also a mix of soft and hard news because on the top half includes or hard news because it talks about politics however on the bottom half it talks about something other than politics conflict and war which makes the whole paper a mix of soft and hard news. Also the newspaper has tradition serif masthead which is basic bald text which covers the front of the newspaper cover. Capitalized  often banner headlines.

The front page in this newspaper is dominated by headlines but images, but usually some writing is included as well which surrounds all of the headlines. However a small mix of both and in this newspaper it addresses middle market audiences.

Boys in the hood

Camera - In the opening of boys in the hood it starts off with straight cuts and this is done so that the audience can get a feeling about the area so that they can see how crime is a common thing in the area that this film is set in. After that the pan left is used so that we follow the boys path so we can get a feel of what it is like to live in their life.360 degree angles are used so that we as an audience can see what the neighborhood is like and get a feeling of suspense to see what the boys are doing and where they are about to go.

Sound - In the opening of the film rap music is played to present the mood and genre of the film. When the camera does a closeup on the stop sign the music stops and this is because they are trying to pot ray a message to the audience without the music being a distraction they only want the audience to focus on the sign rather than the music. However once this camera shot has finished different music is played and this music is played for suspense because the audience does  not know where the boy is about to take his friends so with the music in the background adds suspense on to the scene for affect.

Editing - Various amounts of editing have been used to portray the mood of the scene for example fades have been used to slowly cut between scenes rather than suddenly cut because they dont want to make the audience something is going to happen and it makes the film go slower rather than constantly cutting between scenes which could make the film very jumpy. Sound effects have been added such as the plane engine this is to add effect to the film and make the area seem like a busy and very noisy place to live.

Mise en Scene -  In this film the characters costumes have been carefully chosen to set the right mood of the film for example everyone in all the scenes are wearing street wear and this is done to show the audience the type of people they are and the kind of families that they come from. Props such as police tape have been used to show that in the area where the film has been set to show the audience that crime such as murder is a common thing and nothing surprising for the characters.

Representation

Representation - Everything in media needs to be constructed. Media is all about representation. When taking a photo representation is important because you need to think about
-Topic
-Setting
-Angle
-Frame
These are all things that effect representation. 3 processes of representation involve selection, omission and construction.

Selection - Picking out the right thing
Construction - How its put together
Omission - means taking away things such as ster

Textual Analysis

Camera - In the opening of up there are different frames that are included to make each scene effective and to get the mood across to the audience, for example extreme closeups are used so that the audience can see facial expressions. Also pd up and Pd down are used so that the audience can see what is happening higher up and lower down.
Sound - Towards the beginning of the film when everything is going well for the couple e.g getting married etc the music is loud and cheerful however when their lives take a turn and everything starts going badly for them then the pace of the music drops and effects the mood of the film.
Editing - When there are sad parts of the opening the film includes of fades because it is a slow way of changing scenes whereas if they included straight cuts instead of fades then it would not have been as effective, this is because a fade makes it dissolve slower.
Mise en Scene - In this film props are used to get the mood set for the audience for example balloons are used for when the old man is visiting his wide in hospital and there balloons are used so that the man can pass a message in a nicer way to set the mood for the audience.

Towards the begging of the opening the music is shown to be upbeat and happy also it includes of a voice over so the audience get the affect of direct address of the girl speaking directly to the audience about the day in her life. Also the girl is shown to be wearing bright cheerful clothing and this is to enhance her personality as cheerful and friendly.

In cape fear the opening shot includes of a zoom out shot and this is effective because it slowly reveals information about the man and what he is doing for example because of the camera angle it shows how many books he has and  it makes it look like more because of the slow way that the camera zooms out. The way the camera angle ha started the film off will show that this man could be very dangerous however it is later shown in a different perspective and he is shown to be not very dangerous as he seemed in the beginning.

Film Poster Distinct-genre

The film wonder is an american film about a young boy who starts his first day at school however he was born with a disease which makes his appearance different to others, as a matter of this he is scared what other people will say or do because he is different to everyone else. The film represents his transition from being shy and lonely to popular and brave because of the amount of support he has by the end of the film

Distinct

Setting - The setting of this picture sows the audience that the film is going o be about a family who are very close and how the parents are very supportive of their son, maybe because he is going though a hard time. Due to the boy wearing a mask will show the audience that he is a shy person maybe because of his appearance. The way the mother is talking to her son in the cover of this film shows the audience how supportive she is and how she wants to cheer him up and the father standing behind shows he has his families back no matter what happens.

Themes - The theme of transition from Shy to Brave and how the themes change to gain respect from the audience to benefit the director from the clever things he has done. The theme of the boy being lonely sad and emotional.

Icons- What props have been used in this film cove and why are they effective? In this picture the main icon is the space helmet that is worn by the boy, it is effective because it shows the audience a good idea about what the film is going to be about, for example the helmet may show the boy is a shy person and the film is about the boys transition from shy to brave via the support of his parents which is shown by the film cover,

Narrative - In this film i think this film is going to be about a boy who is having a hard time maybe with his confidence however he has a loving family who cares for him who are there to support him. Judging the picture with the icons the helmet is  to cover his face because he does not look like every single person his age and he feels he is different to to the rest.

Characters - In the film poster there are 3 characters the son mother and father these 3 characters have been used to show the audience who the important characters are this is because they want to feel for the younger boy because of how shy he gets when he sees people, the mother has been used as a character on this film poster because it shows the audience how supportive her character is.
